PRIOR TO ORDERING THIS PART, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE VERIFIED:
Tech Tip Part Description: Gear Shift Assembly
Tech Tip Description: Issue 1- If you have a binding or broken PRNDL Bezel, or a concern with the Electronic Shifter Module (ESM), it is no longer necessary to replace the transmission Shifter Housing and Lever Assembly. The assembly is now two serviceable parts 1) Housing and Lever, and 2) PRNDL Bezel. The PRNDL Bezel includes the Electronic Shifter Module (ESM). For 2005 to 2007 WK/WH and 2006 to 2007 XK/XH PRNDL Bezel installation instructions reference Service Bulletin 21-016-06.
Issue 2- Please review the following trouble shooting guide for common Shifter, PRNDL Bezel, and Electronic Shifter Module (ESM) concerns.
(A) If you are replacing a component for a stored U0103 Loss Of Communication with Electronic Shifter Module (ESM) in a 2007MY product, insure that the Front Control Module (FCM) is flashed to 04692138AG or greater. If not download the FCM flash from DealerCONNECT. After the flash is completed, clear all codes and verify U0103 does not return, if it does not, shifter replacement is not necessary. If it does return, then inspect ESM as described in section (B). CAUTION: The FCM software does not support module abort - recovery mode. If the FCM reprogramming (flash) process is interrupted the FCM cannot be saved, and will require being replaced.
(B) Only U0103 or U0404 indicate potential Electronic Shifter Module (ESM) issues. If either is present make sure the ESM connector is secure before replacing top PRNDL Bezel (for the WK/XK NAG1 transmission, the ESM module is part of the upper bezel assembly). Follow procedures in TSB 21-016-06 for bezel replacement. Other U-codes indicate issues outside of the ESM/Shifter assembly, therefore, do not replace Shifter Assembly or PRND Bezel.
(C) If fault code P0607 is present, clear the code, cycle shifter from Park to Drive to Park three times. If P code re-appears, then replace PRNDL Bezel. For installation instructions reference TSB 21-016-06.
Issue 3- If shifter slider is binding or there are PRNDL illumination issue
