PLEASE PROVIDE A COPY OF THIS
SHEET TO THE SERVICING TECHNICIAN.
PRIOR TO ORDERING THIS PART, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE VERIFIED:
Tech Tip Part Description: Transmission Case
Tech Tip Description: (1) The size of the cooler line fitting threads was changed (from 1/2" to 3/4") in mid-2013 MY. The old service case (05189883AB) had the smaller threads; the new case (05189883AC) has the larger threads. You must use the correct cooler line fitting to match the threads in your case. Once the stock of old cases is exhausted, only the new (large thread) case will be available for service. Therefore, if ordering a 05189883AC (large thread) case for use in a vehicle with a smaller-thread case, you must also order new cooler line fittings to match the new case.
The old cooler line fitting (1/2" case threads, for 3/8" quick-connect cooler lines) is 52119547AA.
The new cooler line fitting (3/4" case threads, for 3/8" quick-connect cooler lines) is 68200538AA.
NOTE: 68RFE (diesel) transmissions all use the larger (3/4") case threads, but with 1/2" quick-connect cooler lines. They therefore use a different fitting 55111025AB. The 68RFE case threads did not change.
2013 vehicles (with 65RFE or 66RFE trans) may have either the smaller threads or the larger threads. 2014 and later vehicles (with 65RFE or 66RFE trans) will all have the larger threads. 2012 and earlier vehicles (with 45/545/65/66RFE trans) will all have the smaller threads, unless they have been serviced with a new case or replacement transmission assy, in which case they could have either thread size.
NOTE: 2004 and earlier vehicles used threaded (NOT quick-connect) cooler lines. There is NO cooler line fitting available to adapt the new (large thread) case to the non-quick-connect cooler lines. Therefore, if a 2004 or earlier vehicle requires case replacement, and the 05189883AB case is no longer available, use a reman transmission assy.
(2) For oil weepage originating INSIDE the RFE trans bellhousing - if the shell of the converter has oil on it, the issue is usually caused by weepage at the converter hub weld or seam weld.
