Tech Tip Part Description:   Exhaust Temperature Sensor

Tech Tip Description:   Before replacing Exhaust Temperature Sensors for any Exhaust Temperature Sensor P-Codes, check the body harness connector terminal retention clip/tab for breakage or damage. Several retention clips/tabs have been found to be broken and allow the terminal to be pushed back into the connector housing and not making a complete connection. If clip/tab is good and the terminal is in position, a final check resistance test of the sensor can be performed before removing the sensor. The sensor should measure between 190 ohms and 300K ohms and vary with temperature, if sensor checks between these resistances, then the sensor is good. Connect an ohm meter to the disconnected sensor and start the engine. Resistance should change as temperatures increase. If resistance value goes down as temperature increases, sensor is most likely NOT the root cause. SENSORS REPLACED THAT ARE LATER FOUND TO BE TNF MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHARGEBACK.
